About
We perform mapping of preferred areas for the implementation of pumped-storage plants, based on successive filtering provided by tools developed in a Research and Development project in the HERA software. The methodological approach considers physiographic aspects, georeferenced socio-environmental layers, including protected areas and infrastructure networks, as well as information related to the storage capacity required by the electric power system. The computational model provides the sizing of the structures and equipment of the engineering layout, calculation of volumes, and budgeting for each identified project.
What we do
Identification of socio-environmental constraints.
Insertion of layers of information into the HERA model environment to be used in classifications, in the calculation of metrics, and in assessments of socio-environmental constraints, such as legally protected or sensitive areas.
Mapping of potential areas for the implementation of pumped-storage plants.
Application of HERA model tools according to a processing flow of successive filters, seeking at each stage to reduce the area of interest and increase the number of physical, energy, socio-environmental, and cost parameters to be considered for the selection of candidate sites.
Multicriteria comparative analysis of candidate sites
Conducting a multi-criteria comparative analysis of candidate sites, jointly evaluating technical, environmental, and socioeconomic aspects, with the aim of prioritizing areas most suitable for the application of reversible power plants.
Integrated Environmental Assessment
Preparation of an integrated environmental assessment for the various types identified in the HERA socio-environmental module to quantify possible cumulative and synergistic impacts with a view to comparing alternatives.
Evaluation of project integration into electric power systems
Analysis of the feasibility of incorporating reversible power plants into the Interconnected System, determining the optimal expansion that minimizes total expansion costs, including operation and investment, over the planning horizon.
Generation of schematic engineering layouts and budgets
In the HERA engineering module, schematic engineering arrangements for projects are developed based on the dimensioning of structures and equipment, followed by volume and cost calculations using methodologies similar to those in the Manual for Conventional Hydroelectric Plant Inventory Studies.
