About
The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), based on the ABNT NBR 14040 and 14044 standards, consists of a methodology for the calculation and analysis of the potential environmental impacts of a product or service throughout all stages of its life cycle – from the extraction of raw materials to final disposal (“from cradle to grave”). It is a powerful tool for strategic decision-making, including in the context of electric sector expansion planning. By adopting this approach, companies can implement significant improvements, promoting sustainability. In a world increasingly focused on this topic, the life cycle assessment positions itself as a robust and consolidated solution for those seeking to transform processes and reduce negative effects on the environment.
What we do
Establishment of guidelines for the data collection related to the life cycle inventory
The stage of obtaining the life cycle inventory is the most demanding in the application of the LCA methodology, requiring precision in data collection and organization. Therefore, we defined clear guidelines for obtaining and quantifying information, ensuring efficiency and directing the efforts of the study.
Identification of critical points in the life cycle of the product or service
Based on quantified life cycle inventories, we identify critical points that reveal opportunities for improvement. This analysis generates strategic insights that increase efficiency, improve process quality, and support more assertive and sustainable decisions.
Identification of potential environmental impacts and analysis for their minimization, including a spatio-temporal approach
Interpretation and analysis of the results obtained after collecting data from life cycle inventories and applying the chosen environmental impact calculation method. This approach, which considers spatial and temporal aspects, makes it possible to identify potential impacts and support strategic decisions aimed at improving environmental performance.
Planning of electric systems expansion, considering the life cycle assessment
The model developed by PSR applies Life Cycle Assessment not only to individual power plants, but also to plans for expanding the electrical system. Incorporating spatial and temporal variations, the analysis provides a robust basis for supporting strategic and sustainable decisions.
