About
Strategic analyses and projections on the main components that affect costs and price formation in the electric power sector. Through proprietary models and robust simulations, PSR evaluates the dynamics of energy contracts, tariff impacts, the evolution of sectoral charges, and the price signals that guide both buyers and sellers. The studies developed by PSR support the decision-making of sector agents, offering a clear and well-founded vision of risks, opportunities, and regulatory trends in the electric power market.
What we do
Energy contract prices
Projections of electric power contract prices through an optimization model, developed by PSR, based on the concept of market equilibrium. The model calculates prices using the probability distribution functions of hydrology, power plant generation, and PLD. It also considers risk aversion profiles for sellers and buyers, based on revenue and expense expectations, respectively.
Premium for incentivized energy
Calculation of the value of the premium for the incentivized energy contract (or conventional-incentivized spread), based on projections of energy transportation tariffs (Fio-A and Fio-B) of potential buyers, and on the estimation of the relationship between incentivized energy supply and demand in the free market.
Sectoral charges
Projection of the evolution of sectoral charges, including the Program to Incentivize Alternative Electric Energy Sources (Proinfa), the Fuel Consumption Account (CCC), the Energy Development Account (CDE), the System Service Charge (ESS), the Reserve Energy Charge (EER), and the Capacity Reserve Charge (ERCAP), through the projection of their components, simulation of contracting new generation capacity paid with the charges, and simulations of the Brazilian system’s hydrothermal dispatch. It also includes the analysis of the impacts of regulatory and legislative changes on the value of the charges and the competitiveness of commercial arrangements that benefit from exemptions in paying these charges.
Electric power supply tariff
Detailed projections of the electric power supply tariffs charged to all consumer subgroups by distribution concessionaires throughout the country. The costs passed on in the tariffs to consumers are calculated individually, and the tariff is defined according to the rules established in ANEEL’s Tariff Regulation Procedure (Proret). Some of the components of the tariffs are calculated for all simulated scenarios of hydrology and non-dispatchable renewable generation, such as energy purchase, the system service charge (ESS), and the reserve energy charge (EER).
Tariff Flags
Calculation of the additional amount charged monthly on captive consumers’ electricity bills, according to the tariff rules approved by ANEEL and using the results of the Brazilian electric system’s hydrothermal dispatch simulation, such as the Settlement Price of Differences (PLD) and the Generation Scaling Factor (GSF).
