The five-day training combined theoretical concepts and practical applications, allowing participants to develop skills to elaborate and evaluate plans for expanding electricity generation. The training addressed challenges such as the increasing penetration of renewable sources and the incorporation of new technologies, such as energy storage.
The program included training in three tools developed by PSR:
- SDDP – optimization of medium/long-term electricity dispatch;
- OptGen – optimization of the expansion of generation and transmission of the electrical system;
- Time Series Lab (TSL) – detailed modeling of wind and solar sources.
“We had the opportunity to provide training to EEHC on electrical system planning using PSR’s computational models, as well as provide practical support in the application of these tools to plan the expansion of the Egyptian system’s electrical power generation, producing a reliable economic plan for the country with a 2050 horizon”, stated João Pedro Bastos, Head of International Studies at PSR.
At the end of the training, EEHC professionals acquired knowledge on advanced methodologies for optimization and modeling of electrical systems, enhancing their strategic decision-making capacity for Egypt’s energy sector. The training reinforced the importance of innovation and the use of modern technologies to improve the planning of the country’s electrical sector.
