Time Series Lab - Advanced Renewable Modeling

Generation of synthetic scenarios for variable renewable sources with high temporal resolution and statistical realism.

About Time Series Lab

The Time Series Lab, also known as TSL, is a renewable modeling tool that generates synthetic future generation scenarios for variable and intermittent renewable energy (VRE) sources. Our energy system models use TSL to enhance the representation of these sources, creating detailed hourly-based scenarios.

Synthetic Renewable History

TSL creates a synthetic hourly history by processing available information from global reanalysis databases.

Identification of Ideal Project Locations

TSL offers a tool to identify the best locations for deploying generic wind and solar power plant projects.

Renewable Scenarios

TSL generates future VRE scenarios that are temporally and spatially correlated with hydrological inflows.

Renewable Scenario Generation

To estimate the statistical model that generates synthetic scenarios, TSL requires historical VRE generation data, which is often difficult to obtain. The user can input real historical data or create an hourly history based on reanalysis data of wind speed and solar irradiation.

TSL represents the joint probability distribution of all intermittent renewable and hydro resources, for both existing and future plants.

Common TSL Applications

Renewable Integration Analysis

Renewable Energy Project Evaluation

Production Cost Simulation Studies

Expansion Planning Activities

A Powerful Georeferenced Tool

A georeferenced tool is fundamental for renewable energy projects, as it allows for a comprehensive visualization of diverse datasets, including resource availability, land use, and environmental constraints. TSL enhances decision-making by allowing users to easily and intuitively edit coordinates, ensuring the precise positioning of renewable energy facilities. These capabilities are essential for optimizing site selection, minimizing environmental impacts, and maximizing efficiency in the utilization of renewable resources.

TSL is included as an additional tool in SDDP, OptGen, and NCP licenses
